Remaining In God

This week in the Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study our theme verse is found in John 15:4 and after doing a little study and Verse mapping on it this morning I have been challenged and #amazed !John 154   I looked up some of the key words and would like to share their definitions:

re·main  /riˈmān/

This one really caught my attention…

  1. Continue to exist, esp. after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist.
  2. Stay in the place that one has been occupying.

branch  /brnch/

  1. A secondary woody stem or limb growing from the trunk or main stem of a tree or shrub or from another secondary limb.

Wow – We have to be attached to God to keep growing! As soon as we start drifting away, becoming luke – warm or cold we start become limp, wilting, and eventually we die (spiritually)

Here’s the NLT version of the verse:

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

sev·er  /svr/ v. sev·ered

  1. To set or keep apart; divide or separate.
  2. To cut off (a part) from a whole.
  3. To break up (a relationship, for example); dissolve.
  4. To become cut or broken apart.
  5. To become separated or divided from each other

Not only is severing painful for us, its detrimental to us.

fruit·ful  /ˈfro͞otfəl/

  1. (of a tree, a plant, or land) Producing much fruit; fertile.
  2.  Producing good or helpful results; productive: “years of fruitful collaboration”; “the two days of talks had been fruitful”.

If I am not ‘in God’ I am not fruitful for His kingdom and will not bring glory to Him!

  3. Great minds think alike… I was trying to figure out a way to show our fruit growing and dying too. You beat me to it 🙂 Great post…

  4. I love this! “We have to be attached to God to keep growing” I love the visuals as well!

  6. Thank you for breaking down that verse and for challenging me with those pictures of the trees. Sometimes, I look so healthy and growing, but I am fruitless. My desire is to be the tree whose fruit is good for eating…to be able to feed others as I have been fed by the Shepherd. I will think on this today!

  7. Love your insight on this scripture! When I read definition to sever, it made me sick to my stomach to think how many times I have said “no” to God and severed myself from Him. But no more! It’s Yes to God always! I am working on being a fruitful tree 🙂 God Bless You sis!
