Truth or ‘White’ Lies

Do you tell the truth all the time or do you sneak in a few ‘white’ lies?

Growing up in the Amish/Mennonite culture had its advantages and disadvantages, its blessings and some things that I wouldn’t necessarily label as blessings. However the more I come in contact with today’s society, there are things that I see that we were taught growing up that I wouldn’t trade for the world! And I want my kids to learn these things too.

It has always bothered me when I hear someone tell a (as they label it) ‘white lie’…  People use these to get out of commitments, appointments, work, you name it…

Truth versus Lies

And the one that gets me the most, when they do it to their kids! How do you expect them to believe you later in life when you have something really important that you actually want them to believe?

Is there even something like a ‘white’ lie? How can something be a little wrong? It’s either a lie, or its the truth. Its either black or white!

Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Colossians 3:9

Recently my sister posted the following on Facebook:

Perhaps we were just TOO honest in my culture when I was growing up… To me there is nothing like a ‘white lie’, and if you intentionally give someone a wrong impression it’s the same as a lie. A lie is an untruth.

This ‘other’ culture drives me crazy. People try to leave a wrong impression to intentionally make someone believe something other than the truth and they think that leaves them innocent. I’m sorry that isn’t innocence. It’s called deception.

Why do people trust the Amish? They know they will be given the straight honest truth. This is a part of my heritage I am forever grateful for and it is something that is impossible for me to lose.

Smile to yourself and call it sweet innocence if you want. If you think you pulled something over me, think again. Not revealing to you that I know you aren’t telling me the truth isn’t innocence, it’s called wisdom.

I couldn’t agree with her more!

I know this may be a controversial subject, but I challenge you today to start living your life with nothing but the truth!

Atfer all, do you like being lied to?

Remember the ‘Golden Rule’.

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. Luke 6:31

3 Ways to Maximize Kitchen Time

Do you hate being in the kitchen?

Do you struggle with what to cook?

Are you tired of the kitchen always being messy and having counters full of dirty dishes?

Then this is for you!

Today I am sharing 3 Ways to Maximize Kitchen Time and to make it enjoyable to be cooking and baking. After all if the kitchen is in use the house will usually have great smells wafting through the air πŸ™‚

3 ways to maximize kitchen time

  1. Decide what you will be cooking or baking the evening before and lay out the ingredients, especially if you need something out of the freezer. If you thaw it overnight it will be ready to go first thing in the morning! Need inspirations or ideas? Check out my recipes on my blog or my Pinterest page also has alot of delicious looking recipes. I can’t promise how the ones on Pinterest will turn out as I haven’t tried them all but I do know the ones on my blog are Awesome πŸ™‚
  2. Start out with a clean counter and clean up after yourself as you go. There is nothing I hate worse then finally being done cooking and have to spend another hour cleaning up πŸ™
  3. Keep it simple. Especially if you have kids demanding your attention… Sometimes I love planning a fancy dinner for us and going all out with the decorating, but for the most part, I try to stick to simple and delicious meals that don’t take alot of time…

These are pretty simple and straight forward ways to get in and out of the kitchen, but I find that they make a difference for me!

A Rich Heritage

Have you ever considered the heritage that was passed down to you through your family? How many times have you thanked God for your Parents? Grandparents? Siblings?

It is so easy to take our family and loved ones for granted, and just this past week as we were attending my Grandpas funeral I was again reminded of the very rich heritage I have been blessed with, and how I need to be more thankful for it!

Grandpa Yoders

This picture was taken almost three years ago at our wedding!

Grandpa was in good health until about 2 weeks before he passed away! He was 95 years old when he died. He lived a full life. Rest in Peace Grandpa! You are missed.

You might say, ‘but I didn’t have a good home life,’ or ‘I was overworked and under appreciated’ or ‘my parents had nothing worth passing on to me.’

Just consider for one moment tho, your mother carried you for 9 months and then gave birth to you! That in itself is a miracle. Thank her for that.

Its not a matter if you had a perfect home, or a dysfunctional one, what you went through as you were growing up still helped shape you into the person you are today! Our home was far from perfect growing up, and I don’t want my kids to grow up in the atmosphere I did, but I am choosing to be thankful for that because God has used it to help me have goals for our family.

I realized this past weekend that I haven’t been thankful enough for the rich heritage I have been blessed with and so I want to list a few things here that I believe have helped shape me into the person I am today:

  1. My mothers prayers
  2. Growing up in a home where we were taught about God at a young age. (it was far from a perfect home but in looking back, I just want to remember the good times)
  3. Being taught good work ethics (there are blessings in growing up Amish πŸ™‚ They have work ethics that are rarely seen in the world today)
  4. Learning how to bake, cook, clean, and do laundry, plant a garden, can and freeze food. (Cleaning is still a dreaded job but at least I know how to do it)
  5. Being taught to be respectful of other people and other peoples property

There are soo many more and I’m sure once this is posted I will think of more πŸ™‚

Having learned these things, and seeing how useful they are to me now, has really made me want to teach alot of the same things to my kids. The actual culture may be different but the principal remains the same. I know the world is changing fast and with all the social media etc we are having a harder time teaching these principles to our kids. But I know that with God all things are possible. And I will not give up and be discouraged, instead I will press on, knowing that,

Choosing to Say YES

The past few weeks I have felt God really working in my life, tearing out all the junk, (hurts, wounds, unbelief, lies, distrust) and refining and polishing the little bit that is left and creating something beautiful! (yes, YOU are beautiful)

As I am writing this I sit here and ponder it all… God loves me?!!

But I don’t deserve it, I haven’t earned it, I’m not good enough… these are all lies straight from the devil!

Trust me, he wants you to think that and better yet to believe it. He wants you to tightly wrap your hands around your heart and say, ‘God you can have whatever is left  but I’m tired of being hurt, I’m tired of not being perfect, not being good enough for other people, so I’m keeping this for myself.’

But God…

God is just waiting for me (you) to say, I choose not to believe those lies, I am God’s! He created me for ‘more then this’. He is asking that I give Him all the broken pieces, and that I completely ‘take my hands off my heart’ and TRUST Him to heal it. He cares about me, He LOVES me, He wants what is best for me.

Once I chose to trust Him completely there was such a peace! (and even though there are still times that I don’t feel it) I am choosing to say, God I trust you completely to take me through this trial, I know its not gonna be easy and you will have to carry me, yet I will trust in You.

This week in my Bible study with Proverbs 31 I was reading What Happens When Women Say Yes to God: Experiencing Life in Extraordinary Ways and the one paragraph really touched me, so I personalized it for myself,

‘God is speaking to ME because I am His own and He wants a relationship with ME. He love ME, adores ME, treasures ME, and has a good plan for ME. He longs for ME to know His voice and wants ME to listen to His voice. The only way I can know and trust God in this way is to spend time with Him’.

daisy promiseGod will meet you wherever you are and lead you step by step! He doesn’t ask for perfection. He just wants an open heart that is committed to saying ‘Yes’ no matter the cost.

Here’s a song goes so well with this subject of trusting,

Food Photography

Today I am excited to be sharing some tips of Food Photography that I just recently learned that has ‘MAJORLY’ improved my photography skills! They are still not what I want them to be, but I am learning, yay πŸ™‚ I think it is important that my food looks delicious to other people so they even wanna try to make it! And in the past it hasn’t been, but its improving!

A Good Mom

Life keeps going, changes keep coming, and I keep trying to adapt. Sometimes I feel like I can’t handle another change in my schedule but somehow God knows I can handle it when He decides to send me yet another challenge! I love the promise that He will not give us more then we can bear… sometimes I think He forgot that promise but later in looking back I realize it was good for me!

I thought getting married was a change and it was, but having a baby changed my life so much more πŸ™‚ I wouldn’t trade her for the world believe me, but she sure has changed everything about life as we knew it previously! But having her sick has brought on a whole new dimension of change! There comes a time when you just sit and hold her and forget about the counter strewn with dirty dishes, or the fact that church is scheduled to be here on Sunday and the whole house has yet to be cleaned. But this stage will pass so I am concentrating on enjoying it as much as possible. Found this quote this morning and I thought it fit pretty good to what I am facing today.

Here is a picture of my miserable lil girl, she couldn’t even open her eyes alone this morning cause of all the pus in them.

Sick BabyJust looking at this picture breaks my heart πŸ™ Will you pray with me that she gets better fast?!

Be blessed
