Hey its warming up outside! Yay! It has been an extra long winter and seems like more sickness has been being passed around this year then in a long time but hey warmer weather is here now so I’m not complaining 🙂
This is our first year of having a garden and I am so excited about it. One of our friends told us to watch this Back to Eden Film, we did and we are hooked! The way he explains it makes perfect sense, and if something makes sense my hubby is usually all for it 🙂 You can watch the film here.
Since we are just getting started this year and the previous owners had used the garden spot other years we still tilled it up and then spread straw on it…
We had to pull the layers back because we still had to plant in the dirt this year because we haven’t built up much of a base yet. Once the plants are up we plan to put 6-8 inches more chips on it yet. I would recommend putting your cover, (chips, mulch, straw etc) on in the fall and then it has more time to decompose. If you click on the picture you can see my cool homemade line marker that I was quite proud of 🙂
So yeah I would recommend watching the film and seeing for yourself. I will be keeping you updated this year on how it is working out for us. I am excited about it, less weeds, better food, less watering… They say to allow a few years to get the full benefits so I won’t give up if it doesn’t go so well this year!
And here are several pictures of my ‘raised’ strawberry bed. Thanks to my awesome hubby!
So keep checking back for more updates on our garden! I’m so excited to see things start coming up and harvesting and enjoying them! It will help with the grocery bill, plus its so much more healthy then all the chemicals they put on the vegetables you can buy at a store! The other day I was telling my husband I wish I could make money to help with our debt and he told me that I am making money by having a garden! 🙂 That really made my day.
