Woman to Woman is releasing an ebook!

Here is a Preview video of it that you can watch. https://vimeo.com/81040379

Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.  Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,  to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:3-5

What does Titus 2 really mean? What is mentorship? The Word of God tells us to come along side one another. We need mature Christians in our life to lift us up and help us. And we need to be there for the younger ones.

Over and over again we receive emails, Facebook comments and blog comments from women just like you. Women who do not have a mentor and do not know how to go about getting one or don’t know how to be a mentor to others. We are told in the Bible to encourage one another. To teach one another. Life is too hard to do this alone. We need each other. But how? How do we find someone to come along side us and mentor us? How do we know how to mentor others?

What Christmas is Really About

Yes I may be a little behind times but last Christmas is the first time I ever saw this video clip and I loved it!

Why is it that at Christmas time everyone decides to lay their ‘grudges’ against other people down for a day and have a good time as a family, friend, etc and then the day after Christmas we pick up that ‘grudge’ and go right back to living how we were?

This year I wanna try to:

  • remember the real reason for Christmas, that is Jesus coming to earth and being born as a baby.
  • love a little more
  • lay aside grudges, hurts, control, and fear of being hurt again and forgive them completely, choosing to not pick them up again
  • enjoy every moment I have with my loved ones, there are so many hurting and wishing they had one more day
  • make memories

What are some things that you want to do this Christmas to make this a better Christmas and end the year on a better note then it started?

Truth or ‘White’ Lies

Do you tell the truth all the time or do you sneak in a few ‘white’ lies?

Growing up in the Amish/Mennonite culture had its advantages and disadvantages, its blessings and some things that I wouldn’t necessarily label as blessings. However the more I come in contact with today’s society, there are things that I see that we were taught growing up that I wouldn’t trade for the world! And I want my kids to learn these things too.

It has always bothered me when I hear someone tell a (as they label it) ‘white lie’…  People use these to get out of commitments, appointments, work, you name it…

Truth versus Lies

And the one that gets me the most, when they do it to their kids! How do you expect them to believe you later in life when you have something really important that you actually want them to believe?

Is there even something like a ‘white’ lie? How can something be a little wrong? It’s either a lie, or its the truth. Its either black or white!

Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Colossians 3:9

Recently my sister posted the following on Facebook:

Perhaps we were just TOO honest in my culture when I was growing up… To me there is nothing like a ‘white lie’, and if you intentionally give someone a wrong impression it’s the same as a lie. A lie is an untruth.

This ‘other’ culture drives me crazy. People try to leave a wrong impression to intentionally make someone believe something other than the truth and they think that leaves them innocent. I’m sorry that isn’t innocence. It’s called deception.

Why do people trust the Amish? They know they will be given the straight honest truth. This is a part of my heritage I am forever grateful for and it is something that is impossible for me to lose.

Smile to yourself and call it sweet innocence if you want. If you think you pulled something over me, think again. Not revealing to you that I know you aren’t telling me the truth isn’t innocence, it’s called wisdom.

I couldn’t agree with her more!

I know this may be a controversial subject, but I challenge you today to start living your life with nothing but the truth!

Atfer all, do you like being lied to?

Remember the ‘Golden Rule’.

Do to others as you would like them to do to you. Luke 6:31

Eagles

For many years this has been a favorite verse of mine.

Eagle in flight  Photo Credit

Are you struggling to trust in the Lord? Are there things happening in your life right now that you think he doesn’t care about?

Choose to trust Him anyway… His grace is sufficient.

Look at the promise for the rest of the verse, we will find new strength, we will soar high on wings like eagles, we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not faint!

I don’t know about you but I love that promise! God will never let you down. Even if things get difficult, God’s standing right there just waiting till you ask Him for help. He loves you!

I have never done much study on eagles but from what I have heard they are interesting to do a study on. One thing I know, that I think is cool, they have the same mate for life!

A Rich Heritage

Have you ever considered the heritage that was passed down to you through your family? How many times have you thanked God for your Parents? Grandparents? Siblings?

It is so easy to take our family and loved ones for granted, and just this past week as we were attending my Grandpas funeral I was again reminded of the very rich heritage I have been blessed with, and how I need to be more thankful for it!

Grandpa Yoders

This picture was taken almost three years ago at our wedding!

Grandpa was in good health until about 2 weeks before he passed away! He was 95 years old when he died. He lived a full life. Rest in Peace Grandpa! You are missed.

You might say, ‘but I didn’t have a good home life,’ or ‘I was overworked and under appreciated’ or ‘my parents had nothing worth passing on to me.’

Just consider for one moment tho, your mother carried you for 9 months and then gave birth to you! That in itself is a miracle. Thank her for that.

Its not a matter if you had a perfect home, or a dysfunctional one, what you went through as you were growing up still helped shape you into the person you are today! Our home was far from perfect growing up, and I don’t want my kids to grow up in the atmosphere I did, but I am choosing to be thankful for that because God has used it to help me have goals for our family.

I realized this past weekend that I haven’t been thankful enough for the rich heritage I have been blessed with and so I want to list a few things here that I believe have helped shape me into the person I am today:

  1. My mothers prayers
  2. Growing up in a home where we were taught about God at a young age. (it was far from a perfect home but in looking back, I just want to remember the good times)
  3. Being taught good work ethics (there are blessings in growing up Amish 🙂 They have work ethics that are rarely seen in the world today)
  4. Learning how to bake, cook, clean, and do laundry, plant a garden, can and freeze food. (Cleaning is still a dreaded job but at least I know how to do it)
  5. Being taught to be respectful of other people and other peoples property

There are soo many more and I’m sure once this is posted I will think of more 🙂

Having learned these things, and seeing how useful they are to me now, has really made me want to teach alot of the same things to my kids. The actual culture may be different but the principal remains the same. I know the world is changing fast and with all the social media etc we are having a harder time teaching these principles to our kids. But I know that with God all things are possible. And I will not give up and be discouraged, instead I will press on, knowing that,

Get Back Up Again

Tonight I was sitting here watching my 1 year old walking around, she has just been walking for around 2 weeks so there are still many tumbles. But it doesn’t make her go back to crawling, she gets right back up again and starts walking! It hurts when she takes another hard fall (now I understand why they learn to walk while they are still in diapers 🙂 ) but she learns from that and is getting better at balancing!

1 year (75)

Gotta love that chubby little belly hanging out 🙂

This got me to thinking about myself. How many times have I let the hardships of life drag me down and I stumble and fall and am so sick of it all that I just lay there wallowing in it for a few days?! That’s exactly where the devil wants me, and I’m not doing it any more! I’m getting right back up and moving on! God’s got a greater plan for my life then wallowing in my mud and feeling sorry for myself that life is hard!

Who’s with me?
